Where Can I Buy Eclair Cameras and Accessories?

Eclair cameras are no longer manufactured, however they pop up regularly on eBay.  Check out the Equipment For Sale page which has a filtered eBay feed of Eclair-related equipment.

Your local camera tech is a great person to ask about accessories for your ACL.  Many techs have parts on their shelf and/or can custom machine a part for you.  Accessories such as the rod support, matte box and follow focus are not specific to a particular camera and can be found at professional camera shops.

Below are shops that produce accessories specifically for Eclair cameras:

PL Mount Adatper

PL Mounts:

PL Mounts specifically made for the ACL can be purchased from Les Bosher.   Alternatively, Visual Products makes a C-Mount to PL adapter that can be used on any C-Mount camera, including the ACL.

Both types of ACL mounts can be attached and removed easily and do not require any modification by a tech.  Having a PL adapter opens up a wealth of possibilities for high-end lens rentals.

Video Assists:

Currently only one company, AZ Spectrum, produces B&W and color video assist units for the Eclair ACL that allows viewing through a video monitor and the camera viewfinder simultaneously.  The video assist has to be installed by the company so you must send your camera in to their shop in New York.

Support Rods

Rod Support

American Cinematographic Specialties manufactures custom rod supports for 16mm cameras including the ACL.  Although support rods are a standard item available at professional camera stores, the ACL lens mount is off-center.  The ACS rod support is custom designed to fit on the ACL base plate.

Barneys:

A barney is basically a jacket that wraps around the camera and magazine, adding additional noise suppression.

The ACL is a fairly quiet camera on it’s own, however the addition of a barney will reduce the noise level.  This may be useful for quiet scenes and reduce the need for fixing audio in post. Custom barneys for the ACL are available from www.customupholsteryproducts.com or www.birnsandsawyer.com
