  • Super 16 Conversion

The Eclair ACL is regular 16mm format camera which is ideal for 4:3 standard television.  However the design of the camera is ideal for conversion to Super 16 format.  Regular 16mm uses the edge of the film for recording sound.  Since professional sound is normally recorded separately, this part of the film is usually wasted.  The Super 16 modification uses the entire available area of the film frame, widens the aspect ratio to 1.67 and makes the footage ideal for conversion to HD or 35mm blowup.  Converting your ACL to Super 16 will greatly increase it’s value and make it more suitable for use on professional projects.

Two upgrade options are available.  The first is to have a qualified technician modify the gate and various other parts on the camera and magazine.  The second option is to purchase a HD-144 Conversion Kit which includes specially machined replacement parts in Super 16 format.  The advantage of the kit is that instead of cutting and grinding the original parts, the technician replaces the existing parts with factory new ones that are precision designed for the ACL.
